Vein Removal
Spider veins and varicose veins are a reality for millions of Americans. Luckily, these unsightly problems can be treated – with injection, sclerotherapy or by laser vein removal.
When the valves in the veins of your legs weaken or malfunction, the blood that normally flows up the legs toward your heart now begin to collect in the areas around the valves. The result of this are either varicose veins – raised, often purple, cord-like bulges in the legs – or spider veins, which literally look like blue or red spiders or star bursts just below the skin's surface. They can even appear on the face as well as the legs.
Many factors can cause spider veins and varicose veins, including:
- Blood flow difficulties during pregnancy
- Exposure to the sun on fair skin
- Heredity
- Obesity
- Standing or sitting for long periods of time
What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is the injection directly into a spider or vericose vein with a liquid that chemically irritates the inside wall of that vein. The result is a hardening (i.e. sclerosis) of the vein, causing it to eventually disapear.
While it is possible to avoid most causes of spider veins and varicose veins, we often see patients for whom professional treatment is unavoidable.
Once Dr. Benedetto decides that laser vein removal is right for you, we will walk you through the procedure, step by step. Call us today for your appointment!
