RadiesseTM

What is RadiesseTM?
RadiesseTM is a new injectible implant that was recently made available in the U.S. RadiesseTM is composed of microspheres of synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite suspended in a carrier gel that consists mostly of water and glycerin. Calcium hydroxylapatite is the primary mineral constituent of bone and teeth. Each of the elements in RadiesseTM has an extensive record of safe clinical use in a range of applications in orthopedics, neurology, dentistry, otolaryngology, and ophthalmology.

Currently RadiesseTM may be used to fill facial soft tissue deficits including deep nasolabial folds, which are the creases that run along both sides of the mouth from the nose to the chin. When RadiesseTM is used for similar cosmetic purposes, it is considered an “off label” use, until it is eventually approved by the FDA for cosmetic indications.

RadiesseTM is placed into the dermis (lower layer of skin) in the area that needs filling. After injection, the body will resorb the gel during the first few weeks to months. Cells from the surrounding tissue will replace the gel carrier around the small particles of calcium hydroxylapatite. Over time, the solid particles slowly degrade and are resorbed by the body through natural mechanisms. The result is long term restoration and augmentation.

No allergy testing is required prior to the use of RadiesseTM
